Terminology about TermsThe duty schedules of service-members would prevent many from participating in traditional sixteen week semester classes. In response, the Fort Campbell Campus of HCC offers two non-standard calendars. Eight week terms. Four times a year, normally beginning in January, April, July, and October, we will offer an eight week long term with over sixty courses, taught at various times throughout the day. Classes meet twice weekly for two and one-half hours, and cover all the content of a traditional sixteen week course. A full time load during these terms is six hours, with a maximum of ten to twelve hours for each term. Unit mini-terms. Duty requirements for many service-members make even the eight week terms impossible. In these cases, we will schedule special classes to meet the need of requesting units. Classes meet for about two hours daily for four weeks, and again, cover all the content of a traditional sixteen week semester. Here, a full load is three hours, with a maximum of two courses in a four week term. Priority for enrollment in a unit mini-term is given to members of the requesting unit, with registration opened to service members from other units, as well as civilian students, permitted on a space-available basis. Units interested in requesting a unit mini-term class should contact the Army Education counsellor assigned to their unit. |
